2010 BEAUTIFUL MADNESS FLOWER SHOW

Our fourth annual Beautiful Madness Flower Show was held at Marshall’s Garden Court in Zona Rosa on July 10, 2010.  The theme for this year's show was “Paris When It Sizzles.”  Categories included Julia’s Choice, Shades of Monet, Haute Foliage, Fleurs Petite, A Night in Monte Carlo, Viva La Paris, La Vie Rose, and Parfait Fleur.  Mary Thomas, a professional designer from Tanan Floral, created floral arrangements from 12:30-1:30 PM.  The demonstration was open to the public.  At 1:45 PM the arrangements were given away through a random drawing. 

There were 75 entries submitted in this year’s show making the judging extremely difficult for our judges.  Thank you, judges.

The specimen categories were:

  1. •La Vie Rose---Choose your best rose to be displayed in a clear bud vase.

  2. •Parfait Fleur---Pick your best blossom from your garden, displayed in a clear bud vase.


The specimen categories were judged by Elizabeth Cavanaugh, editor for the Kansas City Gardener magazine.

The fresh flower arrangement categories were:

  1. •Julia’s Choice---Create an edible arrangement of flowers, fruits and/or vegetables that would make Julia Child proud.

  2. •Shades of Monet---Using his art as your inspiration, create a floral design using flowers from your garden.

  3. •Haute Foliage---Try your hand at designing a bouquet using only foliage. No flowers please.

  4. •Fleurs Petite---Think small.  A miniature arrangement with a French flair, no more than 6” tall, including the container.

  5. •A Night in Monte Carlo---Bring a card table with a flower arrangement that compliments your favorite table game.

  6. •Viva La Paris---Design something that evokes the “Glitz and Glamour” of Paris.


The judge for the fresh flower arrangement categories was Mary Thomas from Tanan Floral in North Kansas City.  Mary was also our guest floral designer.

The schedule for the 2010 show was:

   10:00 - 11:00 AM - Check in arrangements
   11:00 - 12:30 PM - Judging of the entries and awards
   12:30 - 01:30 PM - The show is open to the public to view the arrangements
                              - Flower arranging demonstration
               01:45 PM - Drawing for the demonstration flower arrangements
